The Summer Wardrobe Heroes Our Stylists Swear By

Updated: Aug 22

When it comes to getting dressed in the summer months, we all want the same thing: ease, comfort and style. That’s where wardrobe heroes come in – the versatile pieces you can rely on to pull an outfit together without a second thought.

We asked our team of expert stylists to share the items they reach for most in the warmer weather. Whether you’re packing for holiday, dressing for work, or navigating the holidays with small children these summer wardrobe essentials will carry you through the season and beyond.

Linen Shorts and a Lightweight Shirt – Melissa’s Summer Uniform

Melissa’s go-to combo is a pair of neutral linen shorts teamed with a lightweight denim shirt – a pairing that works for both on holiday and at home. Add a small but chic crossbody bag in a neutral tone and you’re good to go.

The Floaty Maxi – Sarah’s Wear-Everywhere Favourite

Sarah’s pick is a long black cotton maxi dress – effortless, cool and endlessly versatile. “I picked mine up from Zara, but you’ll find similar styles elsewhere. I wear it over swimwear on holiday, but with the right jewellery and accessories, it’s easily dressed up for dinner or smarter events.”

Try instead: A neutral maxi in a breathable fabric like cotton or linen – perfect if black feels too heavy for daytime

Accessories Make the Outfit – Zoe’s Clever Styling Trick

For Zoe, summer style starts with the accessories. Chocolate brown sunglasses, sandals and bags act as grounding pieces that go with everything.

“Accessories in rich neutrals like brown or tan feel timeless,” she says. “They instantly elevate any outfit – just don’t forget the jewellery.”

Try instead: If chocolate brown isn’t your thing, go for black, tan, or off-white – all versatile options that work with most palettes.

The White Linen Shirt – Milla’s Versatile Must-Have

Milla swears by a classic white linen shirt. “It’s my most-used item all summer long – over swimwear, with jeans, thrown over dresses or worn with shorts,” she says.

It’s the layering hero that always looks fresh, no matter how high the temperature climbs.

The One-and-Done Jumpsuit – Kirsten’s Effortless Hero Piece

Kirsten’s secret to no-fuss summer dressing? A very lightweight jumpsuit. It’s easy to throw on, does all the work, and can be styled up or down with accessories.

Pair with Birkenstocks and a roomy tote for day, or switch to a raffia clutch and smart sandal for evening.

Try instead: A simple summer shirt-dress in a breathable fabric – just as effortless, with all the same styling options.

The Tailored Waistcoat – Ciara’s Polished Pick

Ciara’s summer hero is a white cotton or linen waistcoat. “It’s more interesting than a T-shirt, but just as easy to wear”. It works beautifully with denim or tailored shorts and instantly pulls together an outfit with minimal effort.

Try instead: A pretty broderie anglaise top for the same polish with a slightly more feminine finish and an opportunity to hide your arms if you're conscious of that area!

Tailored Shorts and a Colour Pop Blouse – Katie’s Go-To Combo

Katy relies on tailored shorts and a colourful, lightweight blouse for an easy, stylish outfit that works on busy days when she's meeting clients and sourcing clothes as well as when she's running after her 4 small children. Flat shoes keep things relaxed and very wearable yet stylish.
